You can send your beta test forms to john.smith@gravis.com. I've been
receiving your reports, thanx. I tried to send you a reply to let you
know but I got a bounce back on your address. Seems I was missing a few
characters, oops. All is ok now.
I'm trying to get SBOS 2.02 off of Forte as we speak. I'll try and at
least put it on our BBS tonight and put it on utoronto tomorrow. Look
for GUS0015.ZIP. It fixes some of the problems such as UWII.
There is also a new form that'll go out with the new SBOS.

Are those general MIDI patches complete? I keep hearing that they've been done
since "before Christmas," but if that's the case, why didn't Gravis put them
up on their BBS. They could have at least let us more enthusiastic GUSers
download the new MIDI patches. THen, when the software was finished, they
could ship the GM patches + software to all the registered GUS owners.
Maybe Gravis secretly put off the midi patches until last week, and finished
them this week. heh
I noticed in X-WING / SBOS 1.42B, the tie-fighter scream really taxes the CPU
(on a 486-33!) Is there a way to resolve this, without shutting off the
sound ffect?

To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>
I've switched to the newest SBOS (1.4B2), and am in general quite
pleased. A number of games I've tried have sounds I'd not heard before!
However, I have yet to find a .MOD player that works at all! I've
tried SS (Sound System), Trak (TrakBlaster), VP (Visual Player) and
Wowii (1.30, I think), and they all lock up! Going back to SBOS 1.2
solves the problem, so I assume it's nothing I'm doing wrong, but
something with SBOS 1.4B2.
The only other thing I've noticed is in Major Stryker (from Apogee).
With SBOS 1.2, I get nice music, but the sound effects are so quiet
they're almost inaudible. With SBOS 1.4B2, the music is mostly just
percussion, but now the sound effects are nice and loud. Are the .SBS
"patches" that different?

I have two Opti chips on my motherboard. They are marked as follows:
1) 82C392
4L4OF1206
JAPAN 9152EAI
2) 82C493
4LO5F2291
JAPAN 9148EAI
I can't get SB support on a LOT of games. Should I consider another
motherboard?

I was wondering if anyone has the GUS working with SBOS under OS/2 2.1b
running MSDOS games in DOS full screen. I have successfully run Sherlock
Holmes I from a CD drive using the new 1.4B2 SBOS, but all other games I
have tried cause a TRAP 2 error and the system crashes. What DOS session
settings have others used?

To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>
Ok, I downloaded the new SBOS file GUS0014.ZIP from epas with
SBOS version 1.42B.
I noticed that when I try to use the -o3 parameter the SBOS doesn't
load but gives a message like this "The NMI procedure on this PC is
disabled."
What's the story???? I never had any problems with version 1.22.
Also does version 1.42B of SBOS use the -x parameter??? When I use the
/h (help) parameter it explains -f, -o, and -v but not -x. Why???
Any answers to the NMI problem should be posted to the mailing list or
E-mailed to me.
Another Happy GUSian that is just getting more FED UP without having any
NATIVE MODE GUS software!!!!!

If you want to turn on line in with SBOS 1.4B2 or greater run it with a
-L switch.

I saw this post in comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard:
>Hi, I got a Roland SCC-1 sound card to use with Band-in-a-Box on my PC,
>and there seem to be all kinds of interesting/weird sounds listed in the
>SCC-1 manual that are above the 128-sound MIDI "limit". There's obviously

>novice yet and couldn't begin to figure out what it is.
I've been wondering about this with the GUS as well. I'm using Winjammer,
and depending on where you base your patch set, you have 127 or 128 patches
to work with (with the MIDIMAP).
Now, if it's possible to add patches to the list of patches (some CFG
file, I can't remember which) to add patches, surely you can specify
them above 127/8. Heck, the percussion multipatch does this already.
I'm thinking that you could have a virtually unlimited number of
patches to work with - add the .PAT file, add an entry in the CFG,
and you have a new sound. I've done this in where there are blanks
(41, was it?).
So is it the sequencer programs that are limiting things or what?
Ken
